Irrigation Schedule

Why water rights are so important

A major benefit as members of the MCP HOA we are entitled to free irrigation water drawn from the Robinson ditch as part of the HOA’s water rights.

Utilizing water from an irrigation ditch for lawn irrigation offers several significant advantages over using potable water supplies.

  1. Conservation of Potable Water: By relying on irrigation ditch water, we can conserve valuable potable water resources, which are essential for drinking and sanitation. This practice helps ensure that clean drinking water remains available for our community’s health and well-being.
  2. Cost Efficiency: Irrigation ditch water is often less expensive than treated potable water. By utilizing this resource for landscaping, we can reduce water bills, leading to potential savings for homeowners and the HOA.
  3. Sustainable Resource Management: Using irrigation water promotes sustainable practices by allowing us to make use of water that is specifically designated for agricultural and landscaping purposes. This helps maintain the ecological balance of our water systems.
  4. Soil and Plant Health: Irrigation ditch water can contain beneficial nutrients and organic matter that may improve soil health and promote healthier lawns. This natural irrigation method can enhance plant growth and reduce the need for chemical fertilizers. The water contains no chlorine which can hurt plants and stain fences and concrete.
  5. Community and Environmental Stewardship: Embracing irrigation ditch water aligns with community efforts to promote environmentally responsible practices. It encourages a culture of resource stewardship, benefiting both our neighborhood and the broader environment.
